About Bunka Hashi

BunkaHashi “Cultural Bridge” : Lethbridge’s Fandom Festival

Bunka Hashi, derived from the two Japanese words Bunka which means Culture and Hashi which means bridge, is Lethbridge’s multi-fandom Festival. Just as the Lethbridge Viaduct (high level bridge) connects more than just two sides of the city, we aim to bring the community together, through diversity, inclusive and pop culture.

Founded in 2019, Bunka Hashi started out as an anime convention. Though its successful turnout in it’s first year, Bunka Hashi has decided to return and expand it’s programming to include multi-fandom, in hopes of addressing interests of the local community. There is sure to be something of interest for everybody.

Bunka Hashi has a strong desire for inclusive and community connection. We want you to feel at home and as part of a bigger whole within this community in which we live. With this we also want to support local artist, vendors, business and groups. However; whether coming from near or far, we would love to see you at our events and contests.

Nikkei Cultural Society

The Nikkei Cultural Society of Lethbridge and Area (NCS) is a non-profit organization that was established in 2001 after the folding of the former Lethbridge and District Japanese Canadian Association (LDJCA). At the outset, it’s main purpose was to facilitate a history book project entitled, Nishiki: Nikkei Tapestry: a History of Southern Alberta Japanese Canadians. However, since then the NCS has become a central organization in all activities related to Japanese and Japanese Canadian arts, culture and history.
